XML versus JSON: Parsing in PHP and Javascript

In this video, Connor will take you through the basics of parsing using, first PHP, to parse XML and JSON. Next Connor flips to the Javascript environment where he examines the difficulties of parsing XML with Javascript. Finally, Connor demos the ease with which JSON objects can be parsed in Javascript.

XML and JSON are meta languages used to carry data in a platform independent manner. XML uses a tag based structure which is criticized for verbosity and length. JSON uses an hierarchal structure based on Javascript objects and is sometimes criticized for being difficult to read.
